Hope Summer Repertory Theatre

Summer 2005

This summer we made the switch from using SFX with a pair of Yamaha DSP Factory Sound cards and rack mount EQs, to using a Richmond Sound Design Audiobox for all audio routing and system EQ.  For some of our productions we simply used ABEdit to run the show inside the Audiobox directly.  Some of our shows we just ran SFX, and the Audiobox was simply used for it's routing and EQ functions.  For our more complex shows, we programmed cues within the Audiobox using ABEdit, and SFX was used to run the show, sending MIDI commands to both the Audiobox and other equipment.

The other new addition this season, is the use of the Hear Technologies ADAT Extreme Extender.  This allowed us to have a digital signal path from the FOH Mix position to the Control Booth.  This meant we had one less point in the signal chain where we converted from digital to analog and back.  This year we only had two A to D points, (at the Analog Inputs of the Yamaha O1Vs, and at the Analog Inputs of the Audiobox), and two D to A Points.  (at the Gina 24s Analog Outputs and the Audiobox Analog Outputs) These two little tiny boxes worked extremely well, and are hopefully our first step towards a fully digital signal path from Mic Preamps to Amplifiers.

Mainstage Theatre in DeWitt Center

The Front of House - Mix Position:

(2) Yamaha O1Vs (with ADAT Optical I/O cards) - Korg 880AD (for addition analog inputs) - Telex Wireless Rack

Hear Technologies ADAT Extender provides ADAT Optical Link to Booth

The Control Booth:

Computer runs both ABEdit (Audiobox Control Software) and SFX (Pro Audio/Show Control).

Echo Gina 24 Sound Card provides digital audio connection & routing from FOH position to Audiobox, and allows for addition playback channels.

Our drive rack now consists only of an Audiobox.  The CD Player and MD Recorder are in the rack, for use during sound checks, rehearsals, etc.

The Mackie 1402 mixer is used for talkback mic, Stage Manager God mics, and sound check/troubleshooting.

Kurzweil PC88 was used for our production of Scapin, to play back MIDI sequences from SFX.
